BoomBox is one grooving duo, they throw the funk down between beats and guitar.  The duo formed back in 2004 and are up and coming quickly on the scene.  I just want to say the only way to describe the sound of these guys is: heady.  These get the party going and keep it jammin until the sun comes up.  If you’re looking for a band who throws down some funk while sticking to the roots check these guys out.  Oh and by the way, ever heard of The Mighty Pranksters? yeah, a little band called The Grateful Dead drove around with them during the sixties, the guitarist of BoomBox is a lovechild of one of the members of the pranksters.  They’re latest album downriverelectric is streaming for free here. As some may know,NFL Running Back Ricky Williams retired a couple of days ago. The man was just an overall boss, star athlete, and bonafide best friend of that hoe Mary Jane. I once saw a ESPN documentary where it showed Ricky posted up in a small house in Nor-Cal, smoking weed every day and jamming out on instruments, all while dropping straight wisdom on the interviewer. It then shows him returning to football but to then leave to become a healer with herbs…sounds pretty chill. So heres three reggae tracks in honor of our favorite stoner running back…JAH:

In just under a month Avon, Colorado will be hosting the Snowball Music Festival and its prime-time mind bruising line up, of which features the band TV On The Radio. The band hails from Brooklyn and has been making strides through the world of alternative music since the popularity of their biggest hit Wolf Like Me.  They mesh together sounds of soul, indie rock, trance, and all kinds of other great stuff. Staring at the Sun is a sort of older jam by the band, it will put you in a trance with the crossing harmonies and still standing guitar over the heavy fuzzy bass. If you like great music, check these guys out because they will leave you bruised. Here’s a couple of tracks to get the juices flown’.

Okay, so college rap just really needs to get real. Snapbacks and High-Tops were cool for like a minute, get over it. Hilltop Hoods come from Austrailia and have been pumping out hits since 2003 with their album that boomed which is called The Calling.  Still Standing is groovy, reggae influenced jam that will know your bananas off the counter. Nosebleed Section is probably HH’s most popular song that they had the most success with.  Chris Farley  is a song about dead rockstars and pop-culture icons, and it has a nasty organ line in the background, listen for it.  The Light You Burned is a rock influenced song which they just drop fat rhymes over.  Stop listening to shit rap and check this out. You can’t deny those accents either.

Trampled By Turtles hail from Duluth, Minnesota.  Labeling these guys with a genre would undercut their sound completely, its a guitar, acoustic bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle making sweet un-bruisable jams.  The squad is heading to Avon in March to play the Snowball Music Festival and we’re looking forward to it.  This choice by the festie shows that they’re all about good music and not just set on electronic acts only.

Wait So Long is a song that will make your jaw drop, from Dave Simonett’s vocals to Dave Carroll absolutely jamming out on his banjo, its a must download people.

Codeine is a darker song by the crew, but such a good one. Give it a listen and try not to like the chorus.

The Blues Brothers of Dubstep?

By looking at this picture it doesn’t surprise us that these guys are tearing up the scene across the pond in the UK.  Dodge & Fuski come from Bristol with dirty, grimey drops that will make your fruit bruise itself.  According to their Soundcloud the two describe themselves as “self-confessed Westcountry layabouts who drink too much tea”…whatever a layabout is it sounds like something I want to be when I grow up. The two drops the bass as if no narrate the fear of flying in their song Aerophobia. The two’s most popular release know as, Come Again is another jam that hits the high score.  I feel like alot of popular, heavy dubstep and drum & bass getting released these days doesn’t really pay attention to the music aspect, Dodge & Fuski completely changed my opinion on that. My favorite track by the two also used a little House influence from David Guetta to create Guettastep,which just by looking at the name gives you a pretty good reason to check it out.  Just released on Beatport, ‘The Sick EP’ is composed of all sorts of weird sounds, mixing it up with Dubstep, Drum & Bass, and Electro.  Visit their Facebook page to listen and download a few of their tracks for free. Here’s a few tracks from the duo, who is planning on touring in the U.S. in early 2012.
